ISO/TS 16949:2009 is a Technical Specification developed specifically for the automotive industry’s Quality Management System (QMS). It was approved and issued in July 2009 to harmonize global automotive quality standards.
This specification is based on the ISO 9001 standard and was originally published as ISO/TS 16949:2002. It was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in collaboration with the Technical Committee of ISO to establish uniform quality system requirements for automotive production and relevant service parts organizations.
ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization, and “TS” means Technical Specification. “16949” identifies the specific standard within the ISO/TS series for automotive quality management systems, and “2009” refers to the year of publication.
